Undetected hearing loss can have major impacts on a child’s overall communication skills and development. This can influence how a child learns in various environments, how they maintain rewarding social experiences, and how they express their emotions.
East Coast Hearing provides hearing tests for children as well as specialized auditory processing disorder (APD) testing. Our hearing tests are performed by our experienced audiologists using the latest equipment and procedures. Following the test, we explain the results in a manner that is easily understood.
A Robust and Effective Hearing Process
East Coast Hearing provides its young clients and their parents with a robust, effective, and efficient hearing testing procedure:
- A detailed case history is performed (i.e. relevant medical history).
- Next we measure how your child's eardrums move in response to sound and changing air pressure.
- We place headphones on your child in a sound treated room and measure the softest level they can detect sounds of various pitch (250-8000 Hz).
- We measure how clearly your child hears words in a quiet environment.
- We measure how your child hears in the presence of background noise.
- All of the results are explained to you in a clear and concise way along with our recommendations.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) for Children's Hearing Aid Testing
1. At what age(s) should you have your child's hearing tested?
Infant hearing screening is performed in hospitals on all newborns at their time of birth. The youngest we are able to test must be enrolled in pre-primary. We recommend a baseline assessment for children prior to entering the schooling system (e.g., primary) to ensure optimal success in the classroom.
2. How much does a hearing test cost at East Coast Hearing?
We charge $120 (ages 4-11) or $80 (ages 12+) for a thorough hearing evaluation.
3. Will my medical insurance cover the fee?
Many plans do cover Audiology Services. However, we do not direct bill to your insurance for hearing testing. We provide you with a detailed receipt so that, if appropriate, you can claim this yourself.
4. Do I need a referral to book my hearing test?
No, you can self-refer to any of our clinics.
5. How long is a hearing test?
Depending upon the patient, and the requirement for the hearing test, an evaluation can take anywhere from 30-45 minutes. Typically, we book 60 minutes so that there is ample time to explain the results, provide counselling and recommendations, and address any questions or concerns patients and their families may have.

East Coast Hearing is proud to offer the leading Hearing Aid Leasing Program in Atlantic Canada so you can experience life to the fullest and go easy on your wallet.
If you're thinking about getting hearing aids but aren't sure if you want to buy them outright, this is the program for you. Our hearing aid experts will have you in for a fitting, determine your needs and suggest the best device for you, and then you lease them worry free.
With our leasing program you'll get brand new top-of-the-line hearing aids for a period of four years for one flat monthly fee. Better still, this monthly fee covers hearing aid, batteries, repairs, service, adjustments & testing!
The best part is this is a leasing program; not financing. There's no credit check, and no interest payments. Your payments only go towards the cost of the device.
At the end of the leasing period, you'll return your hearing aids and we'll get you set up with a brand new set that you can either lease or buy, the choice is yours!
Leasing Program Advantages
Here's some of our favorite reasons to take advantage of our hearing aid leasing program.
- Save money up front - Buying a new set of hearing aids can be pricey, and not everyone wants to spend a large lump sum. By breaking your cost into payments, you can keep your money working for you in your savings accounts, or make getting better hearing more managable without the stress of a lump sum payment.
- Pay $200 per hearing aid upon delivery. The remainder of the lease will be paid in 47 monthly installments, starting one month after the initial payment. Monthly payments range from $43 - $59 per hearing aid.. Our Team will work with you to find the device that best fits your life and budget, worry-free.
- Hearing aid upgrades every 4 years to ensure you the best hearing experience possible.
- New state-of-the-art hearing aids from most major hearing aid manufacturers (German, Swiss, and Danish).
- Hearing aids are always under warranty. Don't spend time worrying about your hearing aids, we've got you covered.
- Worry free experience - within the first 60 days, if you are not completely satisfied, the leasing plan may be cancelled without penalty and you will be reimbursed.

Hearing Aid Leasing Program FAQs
1. Do I own the hearing aids after the 4 year (48 month) plan ends?
No. The hearing aids are leased and must be returned at the end of the 48-month plan. When you return the devices, you will start a new 4-year lease and be upgraded to the latest hearing aid technology available.
2. What happens if the hearing aid breaks down/stops working?
All hearing aids are covered under warranty for the duration of the leasing plan (48 months). If a hearing aid needs repair, there is no charge to the patient.
3. What happens if I lose my hearing aid?
All hearing devices include a one-time loss and damage warranty. There is a $250 deductible fee to have a lost or seriously damaged hearing aid replaced. This policy only allows for one replacement per device during the 48-month period.
4. Can I claim this through my insurance?
Hearing devices are covered under most private medical plans. Please contact your insurance provider to inquire about your policy’s coverage. From our experience, insurance companies will contribute to the leasing plan; however, patients will need to have made enough payments to exceed the amount the insurance is willing to contribute before submitting a claim.
5. Do I need to do a credit check in order to take advantage of this program?
No! Our leasing program is different from financing. You're only paying for the cost of the device, and there's no interest to pay. At the end of the term the hearing aids are returned to us and you can get set up with your next set.
