Official Contest Rules — Refer-a-Friend Contest

Refer-a-Friend Contest · July – September 2026
Official Contest Rules
The full official rules for the East Coast Hearing / Highland Hearing / Hearwell Hearing Refer-a-Friend Contest are below, including eligibility, entry methods, prize details, odds, and the skill-testing question requirement.
No purchase necessary to enter or win.
1. Sponsor
This contest (the “Contest”) is sponsored by East Coast Hearing (the “Sponsor”). The Sponsor is the contest promoter — the entity legally responsible for administering the Contest and awarding the prizes. The “Participating Clinics” — East Coast Hearing, Highland Hearing, and Hearwell Hearing — are the clinics where qualifying free hearing tests take place. East Coast Hearing is both the Sponsor and a Participating Clinic.
- Sponsor: East Coast Hearing
- Mailing address: 101-35 Baker Drive, Dartmouth, NS, B2W 0H3
- Contact: (902) 468-1065 · info@eastcoasthearing.ca
- Website / booking: eastcoasthearing.ca/book-appointment
2. Eligibility
The Contest is open only to legal residents of Nova Scotia who have reached the age of majority (19 years of age or older) as of their date of entry.
- Quebec residents are not eligible to enter. This exclusion removes any French-language advertising/rules obligation under Quebec’s Charter of the French Language, since the Contest is not open to Quebec residents.
- Employees, contractors, and immediate family members (spouse, parent, child, sibling, and their respective spouses, regardless of where they reside) of East Coast Hearing, Highland Hearing, Hearwell Hearing, Expedia Cruises, and each of their respective agents, advertising/promotional agencies, and any other individual professionally associated with the administration of this Contest, are not eligible to enter or win.
- Void where prohibited by law.
3. Contest period
- Entry period opens: July 13, 2026 at 12:00:01 a.m. Atlantic Time.
- Entry period closes: September 30, 2026 at 11:59:59 p.m. Atlantic Time.
- Prize draw date: October 2026.
4. How to enter
No purchase necessary. There is only one way to enter this Contest — a referral — and it never requires a purchase: the Referred Person’s hearing test is free, and no product or service purchase by anyone is required at any point to generate a ballot entry.
- An existing patient or contact of a Participating Clinic (the “Referrer”) refers a friend or family member (the “Referred Person”) to a Participating Clinic.
- The Referred Person books and attends a free hearing test (no charge to the Referred Person) at a Participating Clinic, booked via eastcoasthearing.ca/book-appointment or directly with a Participating Clinic.
- The Referrer is credited one (1) ballot entry into the Contest draw when the Referred Person attends their complimentary hearing test and identifies the Referrer at check-in (“I was referred by [Referrer Name]”).
- There is no limit on the number of times a Referrer may refer new people, and no maximum number of entries per Referrer; each successful referral generates one additional ballot entry for the Referrer.
- The free hearing test is the confirmed contest mechanic, not an optional add-on. A Referred Person does not need to purchase any product or service, before or after the test, to trigger the Referrer’s ballot entry.
- Anyone may refer a friend or family member to a Participating Clinic; however, contest entries are credited only to Referrers who meet the eligibility requirements in Section 2. The Referred Person does not need to be contest-eligible to book or attend the free hearing test.
Entry recording (clinic-handled): Clinic staff record the Referrer’s name at the Referred Person’s visit, and the corresponding ballot entry is logged in the clinic’s ballot record. The Referred Person may present a printable referral slip (a PDF offered on the contest pages capturing the Referrer’s name and contact information) or simply provide the Referrer’s name at check-in — a slip is never required, and naming the Referrer always suffices. Information provided on the referral slip is used solely for contest administration, as described in Section 8.
5. Prizes
| Prize | Amount | Form | ARV |
|---|---|---|---|
| Grand Prize | $5,000 | Travel gift card | $5,000 CAD |
| Second Prize | $3,000 | Travel gift card | $3,000 CAD |
| Third Prize | $2,000 | Travel gift card | $2,000 CAD |
Total ARV of all prizes: $10,000 CAD.
Prize gift cards are supplied via Expedia Cruises (Sandra Farrell). Prizes are awarded as described above; there is no cash substitution, transfer, or assignment of any prize permitted, except at Sponsor’s sole discretion.
6. Odds of winning
Odds of winning a prize depend on the total number of eligible entries received during the Contest period.
7. Winner selection and skill-testing question
- On or about October 2026 (see Section 3), Sponsor (or its designated representative) will conduct a random draw from among all eligible entries received during the Contest period to select potential winners, one for each prize, in order (Grand Prize, Second Prize, Third Prize).
- Each selected potential winner will be contacted by phone and email within five (5) business days of the draw.
- To be declared a winner and claim their prize, each selected potential winner must, unaided and within five (5) business days of notification, correctly answer a mathematical skill-testing question consisting of a time-limited, multi-step arithmetic problem (for example, a combination of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and/or division), administered without mechanical or other aid, as a condition of receiving the prize.
- If a selected potential winner fails to correctly answer the skill-testing question, cannot be reached within the notification timeframe, or does not meet the eligibility requirements in Section 2, that individual will be disqualified and Sponsor may, at its discretion and time permitting, select an alternate potential winner from the remaining eligible entries.
- Unclaimed prizes: If a prize remains unclaimed after thirty (30) days following the last attempt to notify the applicable potential winner, the prize may be forfeited, and Sponsor may, at its discretion, award it to an alternate eligible entrant or retain it, in accordance with applicable law.
8. Referral consent and privacy (PIPEDA)
- By submitting a referral, the Referrer confirms that the Referred Person has agreed to be contacted by Sponsor and/or the applicable Participating Clinic about the free hearing test offer and this Contest.
- When Sponsor or a Participating Clinic first contacts a Referred Person, Sponsor will provide the Referred Person with a clear notice identifying who is contacting them, why, and how their information was obtained, along with a clear and easy way to opt out of further contact.
- Personal information collected in connection with this Contest (from Referrers and Referred Persons) is used only to administer the Contest (verify eligibility, conduct the draw, contact and confirm winners) and, where the individual has given consent, for related marketing communications. Sponsor will not use or disclose this information for any other purpose without consent.
- Entrants and Referred Persons may withdraw consent to marketing use of their information, and may request access to or correction of their personal information, at any time by contacting the Sponsor at (902) 468-1065 or info@eastcoasthearing.ca.
9. General conditions
- This is not a lottery, raffle, or game of chance requiring a gaming licence; entry is available without purchase via the route in Section 4, and winners must correctly answer a skill-testing question in accordance with Section 7.
- Sponsor reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to modify, suspend, or terminate the Contest, or any part of it, in the event of any technical failure, unauthorized intervention, fraud, or any other cause beyond Sponsor’s reasonable control that corrupts the administration, security, fairness, or proper conduct of the Contest, subject to applicable law and to obtaining any necessary regulatory approval where required.
- By entering, entrants release Sponsor, its Participating Clinics, and their respective agents from any liability for any injury, loss, or damage of any kind arising from participation in the Contest or acceptance/use of a prize, to the extent permitted by applicable law.
- Sponsor’s decisions regarding the administration and conduct of this Contest are final, subject to applicable law.
- This Contest is subject to all applicable federal and Nova Scotia laws, including the Competition Act (Canada) disclosure requirements.
